A Neighborhood Business. Built on Other People's Trust.

We're Martin Cleaners, and this is (a bit of) our story...

This Shop Has Been a Dry Cleaner for a Long Time.

The building on Noland Road has been a dry cleaner for the better part of five decades. Long before we arrived, this shop was part of the rhythm of Independence — the place people brought their suits before job interviews, their dresses before weddings, their uniforms every week without fail.

That history matters to us. We didn't build this from scratch. We inherited something that already had roots, and we've tried to be worthy of it.

How We Got Here

We (David and Joylynne Martin) had been looking for something of our own — something real, something rooted. Not a startup. Not a screen. Something brick and mortar, something that served people directly.

VIP Cleaners came across our path and it was immediately clear this was a good business. Solid people. A loyal customer base. A reputation built over years. The owner was simply ready to retire, and we were ready to try to fill those shoes.

We won't pretend it was seamless. There was a learning curve — dry cleaning is a craft, and running a plant is its own world. But we dedicated ourselves to it, invested in the team and the process, and have grown the business steadily since 2019.

The customers who've stayed with us through the transition are a testimony — not to us, but to the team that makes it all possible every single day.

We Kept Growing

In January 2025, we brought the Stitchin' Post alterations team in-house. The Stitchin' Post had been a fixture in Independence for decades — a trusted name in tailoring with a loyal following of its own. Rather than let that expertise scatter, we absorbed the whole operation. Their team, their skills, their customers — all under one roof.

Today, Martin Cleaners handles dry cleaning, laundry, wash & fold, and full in-house alterations. Everything your wardrobe needs, in one place.

About the Sign on the Door

If you've driven past our shop, you've noticed the sign still says VIP Cleaners. You're not confused — we're just working on it.

When we took over in 2019, the business became Martin Cleaners. Our pickup and delivery routes, previously known as Curbside Dry Cleaning Express, have gradually made the same transition. And with the Stitchin' Post now part of the family, some of those customers are finding us for the first time under a name they didn't expect.

Same location. Same phone number. Same commitment to doing the work right. We're Martin Cleaners — and eventually, the sign will say so too.

What Actually Drives Us

We'll be honest with you: we're not passionate about clothes. We're passionate about doing something meaningful in the community where we live and work.

Dry cleaning is the vehicle. What we actually care about is showing up consistently, treating people right, and running a business that our customers and our team can count on. The fact that we happen to be good at garment care is a bonus.

This is our home. The people who walk through our door are our neighbors. That's not marketing language — it's just true, and it shapes every decision we make about how we run this place.

David & Joylynne Martin, Owners

We live in the Kansas City area and are glad to call this community home. If you come in during the week, there's a good chance you'll see one of us behind the counter — or at least nearby.
